From May 10 to September 21, the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore in Asciano is hosting the exhibition “Fra Giovanni da Verona ... a 500 anni da te,” to commemorate Fra Giovanni da Verona on the 500ᵗʰ anniversary of the passing of the Olivetan monk who was famed for being one of the best inlayers of the Renaissance.
Nineteen contemporary artists pay tribute to the monk, confirming much is still to be learned from this innovative spirit, from his ability to combine technical skill and knowledge of perspective with a focus on the message and content.
A world of the sacred, still lifes, animals, faces, glimpses of landscapes, a study of renaissance, imposing skyscrapers, busy streets, lightning ripping through the sky, traditional and modern musical instruments, swirls of color, geometries dissolved and recomposed ...
A contemporary reflection on the refined uniqueness of Fra Giovanni da Verona, whose messages are still cornerstones of our spirituality today.
