From October 7, 2023 to February 4, 2024 the famous artist Anish Kapoor bring his idea of contemporary sculpture to Florence, in an original dialogue with the spaces of Palazzo Strozzi.
The major exhibition Anish Kapoor. Untrue Unreal offers a journey through monumental installations, intimate environments and thought-provoking forms. An engaging dialogue between art, architecture and the public at Palazzo Strozzi, it also includes a new immersive work for the Renaissance courtyard, Void Pavillion VII (Il padiglione del vuoto VII, 2023).
Through historical and recent works, the exhibition is an opportunity to come into direct contact with the versatility, discordance, entropy and ephemerality of the art of Anish Kapoor, one of the most influential artists of our time.
Anish Kapoor's works unite empty and full spaces, absorbing and reflecting surfaces, geometrical and biomorphic forms. Avoiding categorizations and distinguished by a unique visual language that combines painting, sculpture and architectural forms, Kapoor investigates space and time, the inside and the outside, inviting us to explore the limits and potentialities of our relationship with the world around us and to reflect on dualisms such as body and mind, nature and artifice.
The materials used (pigment, stone, steel, wax and silicone, to name a few) are manipulated, sculpted, smoothed, saturated and treated questioning the boundary between plasticity and immateriality. Color becomes an immersive phenomenon, with its own volume, spatial and illusory at the same time.
Palazzo Strozzi becomes a venue at once concave and convex, whole and yet fragmented, in which visitors are called on to question their senses. Between wonder and concern, the unreal merges with the untrue, transforming or negating the common perception of reality. An invitation to explore a world in which the boundaries between true and false dissolve, to search for truth beyond appearances, opening doors to the dimension of the impossible.
