Trekking between Poggio Citerna and Montescalari

Some of the ingredients of this beautiful hike are: the ancient and recent history, an amazing Badia with its vivid evidence of World War II, the Della Robbia terracotta, the Fonte della Tosse, last but not least the beauty of the iris tree in the period of its full bloom.

From Poggio alla Croce we will explore the path of Poggio Citerna and we will discover its historical and naturalistic features, as well as beeing able to enjoy a splendid panorama from the Apuan Alps to Pratomagno. 

We will then penetrate through the woods up to Pian d'Albero and we will walk a true Path of Memory to arrive at Badia di Monte Scalari (a shelter for pilgrims on the Cassia Adrianea and one of the seven Abbeys of the Vallombrosan order). 

Finally we will marvel in front of the monumental Cerro dei Cento Rami before concluding our experience in the heart of an area still rich in stories to be rediscovered.

To make a quick summary in this proposal we will have the opportunity to visit: the nature trail of Poggio Citerna, irises in bloom, the path of Memory, the abbey at Montescalari.
