The Via Lauretana is a path through the heart of Italy to Loreto (Marche). Called "the world's oldest Marian path," it passes through some of the most important places of Christianity in Italy. We will follow the Tuscan part of this ancient Via.
Six days on the road from the magnificent medieval city of Siena to Etruscan Cortona through the iconic landscapes of the Crete Senesi and the fertile and industrious Val di Chiana, the villages of Torrita, Asciano, Sinalunga, Serre di Rapolano and Scrofiano.
A journey to be discovered, in a part of Tuscany that is little known and for this reason authentic, full of hidden treasures of incredible beauty. We will travel this ancient road slowly, with open hearts and eyes, enjoying the encounter with the local people, tasting their culinary delicacies (ever heard of Val di Chiana aglione or Chianina cows?), visiting the parish churches, farms and Leopoldina farms that tell so much about the history of land reclamation and sharecropping in these places on the fringes of large-scale mass tourism.
Day 1: meeting in Siena, urban trekking of the medieval fountains and, in the afternoon, introduction to the Via Lauretana at the "Geosito delle Biancane" for an immersive hike in the Crete Senesi.
Day 2: trekking from Asciano (with a visit to the Pieve dei Santi Ippolito e Cassiano) to Serre di Rapolano, the travertine quarries and Osteriaccia.
Day 3: trekking from Scrofiano to Sinalunga, up to Torrita di Siena. Included a visit to the beautiful La Fratta Farm.
Day 4: trekking through the fertile Val di Chiana, its canals and its many hydraulic works until arrival at Petrignano del Lago.
Day 5: trekking to Etruscan Cortona, through evocative landscapes dense with culture.
Day 6: visiting beautiful Cortona and saying goodbye
