Panzano: "the Golden Valley of Chianti"
Soft trekking with an expert guide in a great historical and cultural territory, rich of nature and landscapes with its squares, churches and vineyards
The "Conca d'Oro of Chianti", this is how the surrounding area of Panzano is known, an appellation well deserved for the richness of the landscape and culture it offers.
This easy itinerary, suitable for most people, starts from Piazza Bucciarelli, also known as Piazza "Campana" because of its shape, home of markets offering the typical products of the area and well-known butcher shops.
We will walk towards the upper part of the town with splendid views of the surrounding countryside until we reach the splendid Santa Maria a Monte, a 19th-century church with a tower that was part of the ancient fortification. After a brief stop in the small and scenic Piazzetta Luca di Totto da Panzano, we will begin our descent through the vineyards of the Conca d'Oro, crossing the Chapel of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
We will cross the rural road system and admire a monumental cypress tree near the hamlet of Santa Lucia, before glimpsing the bulk of Rampolla Castle, home to a prestigious winery where we will see magnificent vineyards.
A small bridge over a tributary of the Pesa River will mark the beginning of the short ascent through the Conca vineyards, before reaching the charming Oratory of Sant'Eufrosino. We will then arrive at the historic Pieve San Leonino, one of the oldest churches in the Chianti area.
