This tour proceeds at a fast pace, which makes it perfect for those who want to visit the city of Florence in an active way.
We'll start from Ponte Vecchio and then walk along the Arno river. Here we'll bump into an ancient and secret staircase which will take us up to Piazzale Michelangelo, the terrace that boasts a unique view of the Renaissance city.
The Piazzale was built in the nineteenth century as a tribute to the creativity of Michelangelo Buonarroti, the great Florentine sculptor. At the center of the large square stand the nineteenth-century reproductions of the most important sculptural works by Michelangelo, including the famous sculpture called David.
The walk then continues: we'll keep climbing the hill! Another staircase will take us to the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, a wonderful Romanesque church. The view of Florence from the San Miniato hill is amazing, you'll enjoy a panorama unique in the world.
Another place to visit on the San Miniato hill is the Cimitero delle Porte Sante, a monumental churchyard where Carlo Collodi, the writer of the tale of Pinocchio, is buried in the greenery, together with many other famous Florentines.
We recommend to wear comfortable, sporty clothes and shoes and make sure you bring a bottle of water!
