Getting to know a city in only a few hours is very difficult, especially if it is so rich in history and culture, but thanks to our expert guide you will discover not only the most important attractions in Siena but also its secret corners.
The tour begins in front of the Basilica of San Domenico, where the relics of St. Catherine of Siena are kept, continues towards the Sanctuary dedicated to the saint, where she lived with her family.
Walking along unique panoramic streets, we will arrive at the famous Piazza del Campo, the main square of Siena, where the well-known Palio takes place twice a year. The square has represented over the centuries the nerve center of the Sienese politics and it is today the seat of the city hall, which also houses the most important city museum, called the Civic Museum.
In Piazza del Campo you will also admire the Fonte Gaia (fountain) and discover the history of the mysterious “bottini”, a medieval underground aqueduct excavated in the sandstone. You will hear funny anecdotes about the spasmodic search of the Sienese of the much sought river, called "Diana".
The tour of the city continues towards the Cathedral, the large museum complex that contains the Crypt, Baptistery and Opera Museum. On the opposite site of the Cathedral there is the Santa Maria della Scala, the ancient medieval hospital that is today one of the most important museums in Siena. We will enter inside the Cathedral to admire the wonderful and unique floor and other artworks of incomparable value by Donatello, Bernini and Michelangelo.
The tour ends inside the Cathedral.
