Wood craftsmen from Pratovecchio

Ancient traditional craftsmanship

Wood craftsmen have for centuries constituted one of the main activities of this area, characterized by the production of every type of necessary rural wooden object, such as carts, furniture, caskets, kitchen utensils, ladles, sieves, shovels. The Prataglia and Moggiona abbeys have for years been the most important wood crafting centres, and continue as such even today. Entire generations of woodcutters, liners, carpenters and artists have used wood for their trade. The Pratovecchio now hosts the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, each leap year the tradesmen show “Le Forme del Legno” is held, dedicated to the woodworkers and their artistic expressions.
