Villa Chigi Saracini was built by Count Galgano Saracini who wanted a grand house for his family surrounded by a large park. Building the villa meant pulling down part of the town's pre-existing castle walls. The villa and chapel were built between 1820 and 1840 by Agostino Fantasici. The layout of the park, which visitors can still admire today, was planned by Count Guido Saracini, great music lover and founder of Chigiana Music Accademy.

Castelnuovo Berardenga is at an altitude of 351m and has a population of approximately 7000 inhabitants. The town takes its name from Count Berardo, a descendant of the Count of Siena Guinigi who governed over the city during the second half of the IX century.
