San Martino
This museum-park is located in the centre of the Etruscan and Napoleonic valley of San Martino. Created by the Elban artist Italo Bolano in 1964 with the collaboration of internationally famous artists, the Open-Air Museum consists of 20 ceramic monuments harmoniously installed in a beautiful Mediterranean park of about ten thousand square metres. The park also has a painting and drawing gallery as well as a ceramics gallery, an outdoor theatre, and a variety of contemporary art workshops which bring artists and members of the public together.

Portoferraio is one of the island's most ancient towns. Its origins date back to the Ligurians, the Etruscans and the Greeks, before becoming a Roman colony called Fabricia. The layout of Portoferraio was designed by Cosimo I dei Medici who, after changing the town’s name to Cosmopoli in 1548, also built the town’s defences.
