Pievi s Scandicci

The Museum Park of Poggio Valicaia

The contemporary art museum was inaugurated to attract more visitors to this magnificent park

The municipality of Scandicci purchased the park in 1979 and opened it to the public. It later became a museum-park in 2003. The aim of the park was to offer local residents and visitors to Scandicci a park where they could appreciate nature while admiring important works of art. Organizers hope to give added importance to the area’s heritage through the pursuit of artistic and architectonic experiments set in the natural landscape of Scandicci. Contemporary environmental art finds a home at this museum park, which is part of a rich and varied international network of cultural and artistic exchanges with partners like the Sculpture Park in Wakefield, Yorkshire, the Skulpturlandskap in Bode, the Kroeller Mueller Museum in Otterlo.

The artworks showcased in the park-museum were created by some of the most important exponents of outdoor art and sculpture, like Dario Bartolini, Italo Zuffi, Maria Dompé, Paolo Staccioli, Valentino Moradei. In addition to artworks, the park also boasts a lake.
