Sculpture dedicated to the Bisenzio River

An historic symbol created by the teachers and students of the Art Institute in Sesto Fiorentino

Vaiano
Like precious stones vibrating on the glazed background of the fountain, streaks of acquamarine, turquoise, rose quartz and amethyst are interspersed with rounded slits from which the water gushes. For those driving along the state highway towards Prato the fountain rises at the entrance to Vaiano, a four-meter high waving monolith which alludes to the nearby Bisenzio River which clearly inspires its form.
 

 

Fountains, wherever they are found, are historically symbols of the desire of a town or area to care--also from an aesthetic point of view--for its spaces. The students and teachers of the National Art Institute of Sesto Fiorentino and Montemurlo designed and created the fountain in a demonstration of an original and exciting educational project.

The council of Vaiano is in a hollow of the Prato territory, surrounded by green, and has a population of about 9,500 inhabitants. Visiting it you can admire the Abbey of San Salvatore and the Museum of the Abbey of San Salvatore. Still under Prato government, Vaiano only acquired civic autonomy in 1949. ...
