A priceless collection of historic keyboard instruments

The Organ Museum is located in Massa Marittima, inside the centuries-old, deconsecrated Church of San Pietro all’Orto, dating to the 12th century. The building in and of itself is an impressive artistic treasure; during a restoration, some frescoes attributed to Ambrogio Lorenzetti came to light and the medieval architecture was brought stupendously back to life.

Thanks to the passion of one individual, the museum is today a priceless collection open to everyone. The rooms are home to musical instruments dating from the 1600s to 1800s, mostly mechanic organs, but also unique harpsichords and centuries-old pianos. Amongst the pieces on display, there’s a portative organ dating to the 1600s and other portable organs from the 1700s coming from Sicily and Naples.

This exhibition traces the history of music and keyboard instruments against an exceptionally beautiful backdrop.
