San Desiderio Oratory

Pistoia oratory part of former Benedictine monastery

The San Desiderio Oratory is located in a Benedictine monastery built in 1515 in the old Donato dei Medici bishop’s hospital. The ancient monastery boasts a church from a 14th century order, which can be visited. It houses a large fresco from the second half of the 16th century by Sebastiano Vini (aka Veronese), which depicts the crucifixion of Saint Desiderio and his companions. The fresco takes up the entire wall of the facade.
