A museum that preserves work equipment that comes from a small woodworking shop

From a simple shop to a museum: the Antica Falegnameria in Massa Marittima, a permeant exhibition founded with the intention of documenting the work and objects from a world that’s disappearing.

Inside the workshop you can see instruments, equipment, utensils and machines, that come from a unique context: an old workshop of Gerfalco (Montieri), where from the end of the 19th century until 1990, five successive generations of carpenters of the Forgeschi family have worked.

In the simple, old, essential instruments and tools you see intelligence, fantasy, the inventiveness of the craftsman. In the first suggestive machines (the planer, the saw) you can see the transition from work that was only done manually, to the rapid, fast, imposition of new technology from the Industrial Revolution.

This workshop-museum, wants to be a homage to the old vocation of the carpenter and to that of the craftsman.
