Castiglione della Pescaia
The Cateratte factory, also known as the Red House, is a structure that was designed and built by the Jesuit engineer Leonardo Ximenes in 1767-68. It is located in the Tuscan Maremma area. The Red House was likely the first building that worked to contrast the marshlands of Castiglione della Pescaia because it helped to separate the salt water from the sea and the fresh water from the marshlands, avoiding the formation of miasmas, which were thought to cause malaria at the time.

The completely restructured building displays the machines used to work the floodgates on the first floor. On the upper level, there is the Multimedia and Documentation Centre of the Marshland, which also contains an office checkpoint to monitor nearby protected areas with mobile video cameras. Museum visitors can also observe the area in real time with a boat ride through the canals of the marshland to admire the flora and fauna.
