Historical Buildings

The village’s most important work of architecture is in the central piazza

The clock tower in Cinigiano is located in the characteristic piazza Marconi, right in the centre of the medieval village. The civic tower is a symbol of the town and you can see the municipality’s coat of arms installed on it. The tower dates to the 1800s and was built on the same site where the town hall stood in the Middle Ages, which was destroyed during the town’s modernization.

The tower gets its name from the round clock on its façade, facing the piazza below. The top of the structure is crenelated and encloses the belfry.

Looking at it, you might be struck by déjà-vu; that’s because some details were likely inspired by the famous Torre del Mangia in piazza del Campo in Siena.
