Sites around Castelnuovo Berardenga
Castell’in Villa, located in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, is a collection of farmhouses, dominated by a three storey medieval rectangular tower. In a document from 1825 the tower is refered to as “palace”. Not far from the village is a small church, first recorded in 1176, that became the parsonage of S. Cristoforo sometime at the end of the 13th century into the beginning of the 14th century. Up to the mid-1300’s, Castell’in villa belonged to Siena however over the course of the 14th century the village became part of the communities affiliated with the Berardenga vicarage.
The chapel of the Virgin Mary located near the village was consecrated in 1901 and consists of a rectangular structure complete with a semi-circular apse; the date 1803 is written into its plastering. The brick facade features a six-point arch, two lateral stone pilasters, a gable decorated in moulding, two small rectangular windows fitted on either side of the building as well as a small wrought-iron bell tower built on the right side.
