Bridge over the Scesta

The bridge over the Scesta stream is situated near Palleggio, in the town of Bagni di Lucca

It is a round-arched footbridge crossing the narrow gorge of the stream near the ancient cemetery. The bridge was built in sandstone by local masons, during the 14th century. Marks of subsequent restoration work to the bridge are clearly visible. It is in a reasonable state of preservation, although part of the parapet on the north side has collapsed.
