The ancient Roman excavations at Bagno a Ripoli

Bagno a Ripoli

Strolling through the centre of Bagno a Ripoli make a stop in the new Piazza della Pace and seek out the Roman excavations here. It is possible to see the remains of a building and the ancient pavement made out of “cocciopesto” - a type of recycled brick used by the Ancient Romans. A number of coins and glass objects were discovered during the excavations, testimony to the active daily life that used to play out along these streets. In fact, research into these excavations has revealed that the Ancient Roman settlement here corresponds almost exactly to the modern day one.
